6. "We want to create a really impressive entrance hall."
The dining hall. In this example the hall is used as a dining room although its function is also to provide access to the lounge, kitchen and first floor. Note the provision of an entrance lobby which is especially important in this scenario. The effect produces a feeling of space especially with the use of glazed doors and views through to other rooms.

The galleried hall. In a new home if space permits a galleried hall can give spectacular opportunities to show off a roof structure and space for hanging pictures or even a library. Try to use high level natural light which can have a dramatic effect flooding down onto a lower hail area. For those converting a church or a barn where space is not an issue the galleried hall is often a good option.

The small lobby hail. In the illustration the lobby hall is kept as small as possible to save space as every square foot is given to family reception rooms, kitchen, bedrooms etc. This gives quick and easy access to all rooms as well as to a staircase up to first floor level. Interest can be created by having natural lighting coming down from a high level. Stained traditional joinery has been used for the doors and care has been taken in providing an adequate number of light fittings.
