12. "We want a unique family house in a modern style, making the most of a superb site". The house should consider disabled access and make the most of the sloping site and panoramic views. The design solution on this site included a curved wing to open up long distance views to the south west. Rooms were orientated so as to make the most of other views (1800 + bay windows). The need for disabled access was the greatest challenge in allowing a car to pull up at the front door and enable a wheelchair to enter and have access to the essential accommodation, i.e. bedroom, lounge, kitchen, dining room.

The main bedroom suite on the ‘ground floor’ has a balcony looking out to distant views. The ground floor WC doubles as a toilet facility to serve the main house but also as an en suite to bedroom 2.

On the first floor further accommodation has the possibility of a self-contained annexe for a nurse in relation to an elderly relative or a ‘teenage annexe’.

Useful Tips:

  • British Gypsum : Thermalboard Plus as an internal lining also bends to follow curved shapes.
  • Thermally broken, double, glazed aluminium windows with ‘Synthapulvin coating’ allows a great variety of colour options.
